She has an outstanding career in both the public and private sectors, working as CEO economist of the World Bank Resident Mission in Colombia and head of the External Credit Division of the National Planning Department Departamento Nacional de Planeación (DNP). She also served as Head of the Economic Research Service of Banco de la República, Head of the National Public Policy Evaluation System of the DNP, and General Director of FES Leadership Foundation. She was Undersecretary of Education and Undersecretary of Finances in Bogotá D.C. Previously, she was Vice President of Finance of Fiducolombia.

Sylvia was affiliated with Organización Terpel S.A. for 19 years. She held different positions, such as Commercial Vice President, National Fuels Manager, and Financial and Administrative Manager. She served as CEO from 2012 until December 2020. As of January 2021, she will remain as the strategic advisor to the Board of Directors of Terpel S.A. and a member of the boards of directors of the subsidiaries of this organization.

She is currently member of the Board of Directors of ETB S.A. She also belongs to the Council of the Women in Connection Association, advocating for gender equality and the participation of women in economic activity.

She was chosen by Portafolio in 2017 as the best executive of the year and ranked 10th by Merco as the only woman with the best reputation in Colombia.

She is not a PEP under Colombian regulation.
